Life in the bustling city shaped him as an "urban creature” rebelling against conventions. As someone who is not used to going with the flow, he passed up the internship stage and, immediately after graduating from Tel Aviv University, he started work independently, basing his design concept on finishing materials (mainly industrial) to convey a message. He embraced his great love of metal and the color black at the beginning of his career when he designed dark bars and nightclubs. What is an "urban creature”… I understand that you currently live in Herzliya, which has not really seen a city at close quarters ... It's enough for me to be close to a city, and, a sworn surfer - close to the beach. My office is located in the Florentine neighborhood, and not by chance. The industrial environment serves me as a source of inspiration when creating a modern/industrial style. And in this respect, Herzliya is an accurate solution. Changing the atmosphere while traveling from bustling Tel Aviv to my relaxed home, does me good. What did you take from your studies at Tel Aviv University? My true passion for the profession. When you study you have the privilege of working from the belly, without inhibitions. But already in my fourth year, I worked at the Arcod Architects office, where I quickly learned that in reality, working from the belly is not enough, and you have to take responsibility. I completed my first independent project even before graduating. From then on I no longer saw the need for "mentors" and for better or worse, I did my internship “on live ammunition”. I opened my office 11 years ago, where I plan diverse projects on various scales, from apartments and private homes to commercial spaces, whether this is a profile of the season Architect Yaron Eldad - walking off track Bonnie Evans huge event complex of over 11 dunams, or an intimate bar of 22 square meters. When I gained experience, I started designing luxury villas, penthouses for the rich, clinics for surgeons, gyms for “body builders”, shops for everyone, and even a 15-dunam complex in Haifa for a railway company. Scale has never been a measure of success for me. It's the design itself that I really enjoy. But, like any architect - I much less enjoy the interface with authorities that unfortunately consumes too great a volume of my work. I understand that you also teach in academia, how did you come to this? I started teaching at Studio 6B where I built a course titled "Commercial Space Design." Built according to my own world view, the course continues today in a slightly different format. Today I teach a fourth year course in the Interior Design Department of the College of Management called "Detailed Interior Design", something that focuses on concept development and its adaptation to context by using unique details. I know you haven't had the chance yet…but what would you try to promote if you were the head of the Architects Association? If I had the chance… time and patience, I would start by creating a new order in the municipal authorities and committees - destroying everything and rebuilding the system. I would give a stage and expression to young architects and hear what they have to say about what could be done to improve the status of the architect in the country. What do you think I haven't asked you? You haven't asked what I like most about the profession ... I think every architect has an important mission in this not-that- easy of a world. We basically plan living spaces for people, and instead of being engaged with personal ego, we should always remember the impact of our job and its inherent responsibility.
