But his relationship with affordable clients and his wife and partner, Anat Kalparda-Anderman, taught him that in an age where the rules of the game are dictated by dry Master Plan guidelines and bureaucratic caprice, what distinguishes good architecture from mere construction is the "cherry on top". "I grew up in Ramat Gan in the New Wave atmosphere and Atari games of the eighties. A spontaneous, inexplicable decision brought me to the Faculty of Architecture at the Technion where I suffered every moment: the studies were shallow and boring, the lecturers were intrusive and students cooperated with them; I was sure that once I’d completed my studies, I’d look for a more serious profession. "After an investment of five years, I decided to give it a chance for a few months and only then decide what to do with my life. I started work in one of the leading offices where I designed several luxury villas. And it was tumultuous and fascinating. I was allowed a free hand and there I received the schooling of my life. I worked for four hard years gaining great experience. It came at a price, of course, but I wouldn’t trade that period for any other. "The next good thing to happen was being fired. I was thrown straight into the deep end of independence and, to this day, I am grateful to the owner of that office. Professionally, I was as ready as I could be, but far less so financially. I opened an office with Dikla Izhar but the partnership didn’t work and we parted after a year. In 2000, I changed the sign on the door to Anderman Architects. "Right from the start I did what I’d been trained to do – plan villas for the well off. Ten years later, one of our clients offered me a very large project. It was clearly far too big for our small office and I had two profile of the season anderman architects - never bored Shira Shenton options, either to thank him politely for the offer, or ask my wife to join the office. Anat had gained ten years of experience working for another well-known architect. In the first year, she worked mainly on the large project and later on she developed the second part of the office that deals with less prestigious areas, like dense housing, urban renewal, conservation and Master Plans. "Today, after the office has gained experience and a reputation, we are looking for ways to enrich the profession, seeking optimal solutions for spatial problems, where on one side there is a client with a defined budget, and on the other – an architect who sees the profession as a vocation based on values. And this is not an easy task when the story gets complicated and the question is supposed to be answered by those who formulated it. When this combines with something unique, it brings joy to all sides."
