The house at Comporta אדריכלות ישראלית Architecture of Israel # 126 August 2021 16 | | Located on the Atlantic coast south of Lisbon, Portugal, Comporta is a tourist area of international fame. Its mixed population of farmers and fishermen lived in houses and small huts made of planks of wood with thatched roofs. These traditional structures gave Comporta its unique and characteristic image. The 32 meters long house was built on an irregularly-shaped plot of a large farm, between a large patch of bamboo and a 2,000 hectare rice field. The colors of the surroundings vary four times a year: the sea water-blue in spring, the green of plants in the summer, mature yellow in autumn, and earth brown as in winter. house of the season house in brejos da carregueira, comporta, portugal Bonnie Evans The 450 sq.m house is made of five volumes, the largest of which is the living room. With its glass walls and ceilings of brown beams, it functions as a brise- soleil, facilitating control of the indoor temperature on hot summer days, and with the isolating thatch roof, there is almost no need for air-conditioners.
