Guest of the Season - Mathieu Forest אדריכלות ישראלית Architecture of Israel #129 May 2022 | | 78 Mathieu Forest was impregnated from childhood by architecture. His mother directs a school of architecture in Paris and his father runs an established architectural firm. He made his first models and sketches as a teenager, and it was only natural he would attend a school of architecture soon after high school. Like all his friends, Mathieu was greatly influenced by the sociopolitical climate of France in the late 60s and 70s. He attended the Tolbiac School of Architecture in Paris where he became acquainted with teachers such as Yves Lion and François Leclercq; both greatly influenced his analytic, open attitude towards architecture. Already In his second year, when he was only 19 years old, he was accepted to Jean Nouvel’s atelier as an intern, and stayed there after graduating. From Jean Nouvel, he learned that each situation is unique, a pretext to invent, and must give rise to a unique response. He participated in all phases of the Copenhagen concert hall project, then in numerous competitions, including the one for the renovation of Les Halles in Paris. From 2007, he lead the project of the Philharmonie de Paris, from competition to delivery. From 2012, he led Jean Nouvel’s winning entry to the competition for the National Museum of China (NAMOC), and became responsible for all architectural production of Ateliers Jean Nouvel, giving rise to his own independent professional practice, Mathieu Forest Architects.
