Guest of the Season / Steven Chilton Architects אדריכלות ישראלית Architecture of Israel #130 August 2022 | | 16 Sunac Guangzhou Grand Theatre, Huadu, China The recently completed 2,000 seat theatre’s design was inspired by the district’s past, as the birth place of the ‘Silk Road’. Using illustrations by artist Zhang Hongfei, the mantle was designed as a series of gently twisting folds, composed of thousands of perforated aluminum panels, while the auditorium itself was conceptually based on a dragon - transforming the typical 360 degree theatre into undefined alternate configurations, thus enabling infinite forms of performance.
