Guest of the Season - Block722 architects, Athens אדריכלות ישראלית Architecture of Israel #137 May 2024 | 60 | guests of the season block722, greece Eli Leffler Katja Margaritoglou, Partner and Executive Creative Director was born to a Finnish mother and Greek father. Growing up in Sweden, she was exposed to and nurtured by a strong sense of interior aesthetics and furniture design. When she moved to Greece at 18 to connect with her father’s roots, she discovered that these elements were less prominent there, an observation that sparked her interest and marked the beginning of her career in interior design, which she later studied formally. Sotiris Tsergas, architect and engineer, grew up and was educated in Athens. The son of a carpenter, he spent his childhood summers accompanying his father on construction sites. Amongst the tools and sawdust, he learned about materials and “how a simple piece of wood can be transformed into an elegant and beautiful object”. Completing his formal education at the National Technical University of Athens, he founded Block 722 with his partner, Katja Margaritoglou, where he serves as CEO and Chief architect-engineer. The studio has been recognized with numerous awards and honors for their projects, with one of the most significant presented here. Founded in 2009 in Athens by architect Sotiris Tsergas and interior designer Katja Margaritoglou, Block722 is a boutique architecture studio specializing in the creation of high-end residential and commercial projects. Reflecting the different backgrounds of its founders, the studio merges Mediterranean and Scandinavian influences for the creation of distinct architectural spaces that feel effortless, timeless, and understatedly pleasing. In effort to design living spaces that dwell in harmony with nature while meeting the users’ needs, Block722 ensures that its architecture and interior arms work together throughout each project to create a balanced and sensitive, yet simple architecture, using a wide range of high-quality materials which help to lend each product its unique design and identity.
