Centrale Building, Beirut, 1920
Marked for conservation, the 1920 building is
situated between east and west, an area almost
destroyed during the civil war (1975-1990). The
domain has undergone massive rehabilitation
inspired by the Ottoman, Colonial, and modern
architecture that characterized it in the past. In this
context, the envelope was reinforced by beams
and metal netting to reveal its past. The inner
walls were demolished and rebuilt according to the
restaurant's requirements, at the center of which
is a service table where the barmen are "locked-
in", communicating with the kitchen below via a
staircase.
